How do I find WiFi near me?
Open WiFiHapa and allow location access. We use RSSI (signal strength) to detect nearby routers and show you the distance in meters — no GPS required. You'll see a list of routers with ISP, network type (3G/4G/5G), and current congestion.
How do I pay for WiFi?
After selecting a router, choose your time bundle (30min, 1h, 2h, 4h, 12h, 24h). Pay via M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, or Airtel Money. Once payment is confirmed, you'll receive the WiFi password instantly via SMS and in-app notification.
What happens when my time expires?
Your access is automatically revoked — the system changes the password for your unique VLAN. You won't be able to reconnect until you renew. Other users stay connected without interruption. To renew, simply pay again and a new password will be sent to you.
Can I use WiFiHapa without registering?
You need a free account to make payments and receive passwords. Registration takes less than 2 minutes. Create your account here.
How accurate is the distance display?
Our RSSI triangulation typically provides 5–15m accuracy indoors. We show you the estimated range (e.g., "~12m away") based on signal strength from multiple routers. It's reliable enough to help you choose the closest access point.
For router owners
What routers are compatible?
WiFiHapa works with MikroTik, OpenWRT, pfSense, and most Linux-based routers. We provide configuration scripts. No hardware replacement needed — if your router supports VLANs, it's compatible. Popular models: MikroTik hAP series, TP-Link Archer (OpenWRT), Ubiquiti EdgeRouter, and even Raspberry Pi.
How do I get paid?
Earnings are sent daily to your registered M-Pesa or Tigo Pesa number. You can also withdraw manually from your dashboard. Commission rates start at 10% and decrease as you host more users.
How many users can I host?
Each router can host up to 120 concurrent users, each on their own isolated VLAN with a unique password. This ensures security and automatic expiry without affecting others.
Can I set my own prices?
Yes! You have full control over your pricing. Set hourly rates, create student discounts, or offer cafeteria bundles. We suggest competitive rates based on your area and network speed.
What if a user abuses the connection?
You can blacklist any user directly from your dashboard. This immediately disables their VLAN access and prevents future connections. We also have automated fraud detection.
Technical & troubleshooting
How does auto-password rotation work?
Each user gets a dedicated VLAN (10 – 130) with a unique WPA2-PSK password. When time expires, the system either disables that VLAN or rotates its password. Other 119 users remain connected on their own VLANs. Renewal generates a new password for the same VLAN.
How is ISP and network type detected?
We analyze the router's BSSID (MAC address) and beacon frames. Using an OUI lookup and carrier database, we identify Vodacom, Airtel, TTCL, Halotel, and detect 3G, 4G, 4G+, or 5G networks. No manual configuration needed.
What happens if the router loses power?
The router will appear offline in our system. Users won't be able to connect. Once power is restored and the router reconnects, all VLAN configurations are reapplied automatically. You don't need to reconfigure anything.
Is there an API available?
Yes. Enterprise customers can access our RESTful API for custom integrations. Webhooks are available for payment success, user expiry, and router status events. Contact our enterprise team for documentation.
Payments & billing
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, and Airtel Money. Credit/debit card payments are coming soon. All payments are processed instantly and securely.
Is there a refund policy?
If you experience technical issues that prevent connection, contact support within 24 hours. We review each case and may issue a refund or credit. Router owners set their own refund policies.
How do router owners withdraw earnings?
Earnings are automatically sent to your registered mobile money number every day at midnight. You can also initiate manual withdrawals from your dashboard. Minimum withdrawal: 5,000 TZS.
What are the commission fees?
Starter: 15% commission · Business: 10% commission (120 users) · Enterprise: 5% commission (250+ users, multiple routers)
